Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with certification or licensure (as required by state standards)
- Demonstrated experience in educational or school settings, particularly supporting deaf or hard-of-hearing students
- Ability to facilitate communication in various classroom environments, adapting to both one-on-one and group instruction
- Familiarity interpreting for students with cochlear implants is a plus
- Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to collaborate with educators and paraprofessionals
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpretation for the student during core academic blocks in a resource room (approximately 3 hours each day)
- Interpret within inclusive classroom environments for the remainder of the school day, ensuring student comprehension and participation
- Collaborate effectively with classroom teachers and the assigned paraprofessional to ensure seamless communication and support
- Adapt interpreting strategies to meet the student’s evolving needs and encourage their independence and engagement
- Maintain confidentiality and foster a positive learning environment
