An exciting contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to work closely with a 9th-grade deaf student in an educational setting. This position is located near Orrville, OH, and involves providing in-person interpreting services throughout the school day.
The student is supported in a self-contained resource room for three hours daily, with the remaining time spent in inclusive classrooms. While cochlear implants offer some auditory support, this student depends significantly on sign language interpretation to fully access instruction and participate in classroom activities. A dedicated paraprofessional collaborates within the educational team to further assist the student.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), with formal interpreter training preferred
- Previous experience interpreting for school-aged children, particularly in secondary education
- Familiarity with working alongside students with cochlear implants and in various learning environments, both resource and inclusive
- Ability to collaborate with educators, paraprofessionals, and related service providers
- Strong ethical standards and confidentiality in handling sensitive student information
- Flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced academic settings
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate, in-person interpretation between English and ASL during instruction, peer interactions, and other school activities
- Facilitate communication in both the resource room and inclusive classroom environments
