Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a sign language interpreter in educational settings
- Knowledge of supporting students with hearing loss, especially those using cochlear implants
- Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals, teachers, and support staff
- Flexibility and sensitivity to individual student needs
- Adherence to professional and ethical standards in interpretation
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for one 9th grade student during classroom instruction and activities
- Assist in both self-contained resource room (3 hours daily) and general education classes
- Work alongside a paraprofessional to foster inclusive participation and engagement
- Ensure accurate and confidential communication between the student, peers, and educators
- Adapt interpreting style to best suit the student’s preferred mode of communication
- Maintain supportive and positive interactions within the school environment
