Desired Background and Qualifications:
- Possession of current Oregon SLI Certification/Licensure is mandatory
- Prior experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings highly valued
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the communication needs of students
- Professional, collaborative, and adaptable in a school environment
- Committed to supporting student engagement and academic progress
- Effective interpersonal skills for interacting with students, staff, and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students and staff in classroom and extracurricular settings
- Facilitate effective communication between students who are Deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and other staff
- Adapt interpreting skills according to the developmental levels and academic subjects of assigned caseload
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and district teams to support each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards at all times
- Participate in meetings, training, and professional development as required
