Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Orland Park, IL
An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students during both Extended School Year (ESY) and Regular School Year (NSY) programs. This contract role will be on-site, providing essential access to communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Prior experience interpreting within a school environment strongly desired
- Ability to collaborate with educators, therapists, and families
- Comfort working in both elementary extended year and traditional academic settings
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or similar credentials preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student interactions
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver interpreter services for students, ensuring clear and accurate communication throughout the school day during both ESY and regular term
- Provide 330 minutes per day of interpreter services during the school year and up to 1100 minutes per week during ESY
- Support students through direct hearing itinerant services (100 minutes per week during ESY and NSY)
- Offer monthly consultative support for teachers and staff (180 minutes/month during NSY, 75 minutes/month during ESY)
- Facilitate classroom participation, social interaction, and academic engagement for assigned students
- Work closely with the team at the educational site to meet individual student needs
