Position Overview
Soliant Education is seeking a qualified Educational ASL Interpreter to support a high school student in Chicago Heights, Illinois, for the 2026-2027 school year. This onsite role provides one-on-one interpreting services throughout the academic year, helping facilitate communication and access to classroom instruction. The student also has intellectual disabilities but demonstrates a high level of independence and actively participates in the school environment.
This contract opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact while working closely with educational staff and supporting student success. The selected professional will collaborate with teachers, special education personnel, and school staff to promote effective communication and educational access. Candidates should be comfortable working independently while maintaining a student-centered approach.
Responsibilities
Provide direct sign language interpreting services for a high school student during instructional periods, school-related activities, and other educational settings as assigned. Accurately convey spoken information into American Sign Language and interpret signed communication into spoken English while maintaining professional standards and confidentiality. Support the student's access to curriculum, classroom discussions, and interactions with peers and staff.
Work collaboratively with educators, administrators, and support personnel to ensure communication needs are consistently met. Maintain appropriate documentation and comply with district policies, state guidelines, and ethical interpreting practices. Foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and independence.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a valid ISBE Educational Interpreter License to be considered for this position. An EIPA score of 3.5 or higher is preferred; however, qualified applicants without this score are still encouraged to apply. Previous experience providing interpreting services within a school setting is beneficial, particularly with secondary-age students.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role. Applicants should demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and the ability to adapt to the needs of the educational environment. A commitment to supporting student achievement and accessibility is highly valued.
Compensation and Benefits
This position offers a competitive hourly pay range of $35-$45 per hour based on qualifications and experience. Soliant Education provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance. Eligible employees also have access to a 401(k) retirement plan and weekly pay throughout the contract assignment.
