Step into a meaningful role supporting a middle school student as a part-time Sign Language Interpreter. In this position, you will provide dedicated 1:1 interpreting support for a middle school student during the school day, translating classroom discussions, instructions, and activities. While onsite presence is preferred for immersive interaction, virtual options (VOCO) are available for candidates who need added flexibility.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- A minimum score of 3.5 on the EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment)
- Experience working in a K–12 educational setting, especially with one-on-one student support
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers, students, and staff
- Professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to student confidentiality
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between the student, peers, and educators
- Interpret classroom lectures, group discussions, social interactions, and assignments
- Advocate for effective communication access within the school environment
- Maintain thorough, confidential records of student interaction as necessary
- Adapt to changes in instruction or student needs throughout the contract
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the student’s learning plan
