Step into a transformative opportunity supporting students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in a school-based adaptive classroom setting. This engaging contract position begins August 3, 2026, and extends through May 21, 2027, providing consistent, full-time hours. You’ll work directly onsite, partnering with high school students—including those in wheelchairs—and serving as an essential bridge for communication, ensuring every learner receives equal access to educational experiences. This role specifically requires the provision of compensatory services in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- EIPA score of 3.5 or above
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, especially within special education or adaptive classroom environments
- Ability to communicate effectively with students who have significant physical and learning needs
- Comfortable working exclusively onsite (no virtual option, per parent request)
- Professional, patient, and collaborative attitude
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate and confidential sign language interpretation for students as outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Provide one-on-one or small group interpreting, supporting student participation across classroom activities
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and staff to promote inclusion
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the diverse needs of students, including those using wheelchairs
- Participate in team meetings to contribute insight on student progress and needs
