Step into a vital role supporting student communication accessibility in an adaptive classroom setting. This full-time contract opportunity provides the chance to work closely with a high school student who utilizes a wheelchair and requires comprehensive sign language interpretation services. The position is based onsite in the Savannah area and aligns with the 2026-2027 school year calendar, spanning August to May.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, particularly in educational settings
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher required
- Ability to adapt interpreting techniques for students with diverse needs, including mobility accommodations
- Comfortable collaborating with special education professionals and classroom staff
- Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and supporting an inclusive learning environment
- Availability for onsite assignment; virtual services are not accepted per parent request
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive sign language interpretation for a high school student in an adaptive classroom
- Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and support staff
- Modify interpretation methods to suit the student’s learning needs and physical abilities
- Contribute to team meetings when required and collaborate with special education staff
- Stay updated as additional details emerge regarding a potential 1:1 student assignment
- Uphold professional standards in both conduct and documentation
