Key Qualifications:
- Holds a minimum EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (candidates with a 3.4 will be considered under specific conditions)
- Possesses a Level 3 Sign Language Interpreter certification for Virginia
- Proven experience interpreting in K-12 educational environments, with a focus on elementary-aged students preferred
- Strong collaborative skills and a commitment to a cooperative, team-based service approach
- Ability to adapt in dynamic classroom situations while maintaining professionalism and student confidentiality
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English to ensure clear and effective communication for students, staff, and teachers
- Foster inclusivity in mainstream classroom settings, participating in both instructional and extra-curricular activities as needed
- Provide support within a team of educational professionals to enhance learning and social integration for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students
- Adjust interpreting technique based on classroom context, student needs, and educational content
- Actively participate in planning meetings and serve as a resource for strategies that improve accessibility
