Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting preferred
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) required
- Familiarity with educational terminology and IEP (Individualized Education Program) processes
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering inclusivity
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring equal access to classroom instruction and activities
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other education professionals to facilitate communication between students, peers, and staff members
- Adapt interpreting methods and techniques based on individual student needs and learning environments
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional code of conduct
- Assist in the development and review of educational plans for students requiring sign language services
