Hours are structured—7:30 am to 2:30 pm—which allows for a healthy work-life balance. You’ll play a vital role by working closely with a 5th grade student in a General Education classroom, promoting communication access and educational success.
Key Qualifications:
- Active GaPSC SLI Educator Certification
- Completion of district-required fingerprinting
- Prior experience as a sign language interpreter within a K-12 school setting preferred
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with Deaf culture
- Ability to foster positive, professional relationships with staff, students, and families
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct 1:1 interpreting services for a 5th grade male student during the school day
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities from spoken English to ASL, and vice versa
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and other professionals to ensure the student’s effective participation
- Maintain confidentiality while upholding ethical standards, per professional guidelines
- Assist in classroom management and encourage student independence whenever possible
