Remote Trilingual Educational Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
Location: 100% Remote / Virtual (Servicing Oregon School Districts)

Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (Contract)

Target Languages: American Sign Language (ASL), English, and Spanish (or secondary spoken target language)

Position Overview
The Remote Trilingual Educational Sign Language Interpreter provides high-fidelity, virtual sign language interpretation, transliteration, and sight translation services across American Sign Language, English, and a secondary spoken language (typically Spanish). Utilizing secure telepractice platforms, the interpreter supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students, families, and school personnel across Oregon public school environments.

Key Responsibilities
Virtual Synchronous Interpreting: Deliver clear, real-time simultaneous and consecutive interpretation between ASL, English, and Spanish for virtual and hybrid classroom sessions, lectures, and group activities.

Remote Meetings & Conferences: Facilitate trilingual communication for remote Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, 504 reviews, parent-teacher conferences, and multidisciplinary assessments.

Digital Material Preparation: Review digital curricula, online lesson plans, and instructional videos ahead of time to develop technical sign vocabulary and accurate cross-linguistic translations.

Platform Management & Visual Optimization: Maintain clear visual communication by optimizing digital framing, background contrast, webcam positioning, and platform breakout room logistics.

Ethics & Confidentiality: Adhere strictly to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct, EIPA Guidelines, and student data privacy regulations (FERPA) within remote digital environments.

Qualifications & Requirements
State & Testing Credentials (Oregon OAR Standards):

EIPA Performance Score: Documented score of 3.5 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).

EIPA Written Examination: Documented passing score on the EIPA Written Knowledge Test.

Oregon State Compliance: Active Oregon Sign Language Interpreter License or provisional authorization through the Oregon Health Licensing Office (HLO) / Oregon Department of Education (ODE) guidelines.

Language Proficiency:

Professional-level trilingual fluency in:

American Sign Language (ASL)

Spoken & Written English

Spoken & Written Spanish (or designated secondary language)

Demonstrated competence in fast register-shifting and linguistic accuracy in a virtual delivery format.

Education & Experience:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in ASL/English Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a related field.

Minimum of 1 year of educational interpreting experience (previous virtual/telepractice experience preferred).

Technical & Remote Setup Requirements
High-speed, hardwired internet connection (minimum 25 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload).

Dedicated, private home office free from background noise and distractions.

High-definition webcam (1080p minimum) with a neutral, solid-color backdrop (solid dark/contrasting background) and professional, glare-free lighting.

Headset/microphone combo with noise cancellation.

Proficiency with standard remote learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet).

Preferred Qualifications
RID National Interpreter Certification (NIC), CI, or CT.

Trilingual credentials or affiliation with organizations such as Mano a Mano.
