Two contract opportunities are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters: a full school-year placement working with early childhood and elementary students, and a shorter-term assignment covering FMLA leave at the high school level. Both roles allow you to collaborate with a diverse team of professionals while ensuring students have equal access to educational experiences.
What You’ll Bring:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills
- Experience working in educational settings, particularly with Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) students
- National or state certification in sign language interpreting preferred
- Flexibility to work with a variety of age groups and settings, from mainstream to DHH classrooms
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, service providers, and support staff
- Professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for DHH students and staff
- Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and service providers
- Adapt interpretations for different language levels and learning needs
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all assignments
- Foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment
- Participate as part of a multidisciplinary team to support student goals
Assignment Details:
- Full-year assignment with elementary students, July 29 – May 25, 8:05 am – 3:35 pm
- FMLA coverage for high school students, July 29 – Oct 31, block scheduling with varied daily hours
