Qualifications:
- Hold a Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
- Achieve at least a 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and a passing score on the written EIPA test
- Alternatively, possess other qualifications considered equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
- Demonstrate proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English with a strong understanding of educational interpreting
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism within a school setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities between spoken English and American Sign Language
- Adjust interpreting style and methods to meet varied student needs, ensuring complete access to curriculum and social interactions
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other professionals to promote the academic and social development of students requiring interpretation services
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies, demonstrating a commitment to ethical interpreting practices
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in educational interpreting standards
