Sign Language Interpreter in Franklin, VA
Step into a contract role providing essential communication support as a Sign Language Interpreter within vibrant K-12 educational settings. Qualifications Required:
- Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, and a passing score on the EIPA written test
- Alternatively, other certifications or qualifications considered equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
- Professional experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in a school environment
- Strong understanding of confidentiality standards and the ability to collaborate within an educational team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, supporting the integration and academic success of students
What You'll Do:
- Provide direct sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities
- Foster inclusive learning environments by facilitating clear, two-way communication between students, teachers, and staff
- Support teachers in understanding best practices for interacting with students who use sign language
- Maintain accurate interpretation logs and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Engage in ongoing professional development and school-based training as needed
