Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter.
- Previous experience working with children or within educational settings strongly preferred.
- Ability to adapt interpreting styles to different age groups and classroom activities.
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical interpreting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, activities, and meetings.
- Facilitate clear, accurate communication between students, teachers, and staff.
- Support students' access to curriculum, extracurricular events, and school functions.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure consistent interpretive support.
- Contribute to a welcoming and accessible environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
- Maintain punctuality, documentation, and confidentiality as required by school protocols.
