Qualifications & Credentials:
- Current certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: BEI I or II (previous system), or Basic (current system)
- Previous experience interpreting in academic or child-focused environments preferred
- Ability to adapt communication across young elementary to middle-school-age students
- Commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity
- Successful completion of a district fingerprinting and background check (mandated prior to assignment)
- Willingness to participate in potential prescreen interviews to assess organizational fit
Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, real-time sign language interpretation for students and staff
- Support instructional activities, classroom participation, and school events as assigned
- Collaborate with teaching teams and specialists to provide consistent communication access
- Adjust interpretation strategies for group, one-on-one, and varied content settings
- Maintain professional boundaries and protect student privacy at all times
