Qualifications and Experience:
- Certified Interpreter for the Deaf required.
- Hold a Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) credential or a Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing BEI I, BEI II (under previous system), or Basic (current system) certification.
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, ideally with students ranging from PK through 8th grade.
- Ability to pass district fingerprinting and background checks as part of the credentialing process.
- Strong knowledge of student privacy practices and maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, both signed and spoken.
- Flexible to meet the evolving needs of students and staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, group activities, assemblies, and individualized education sessions for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
- Foster positive connections between students, educators, and parents by providing clear, accurate interpretation services.
- Support students’ language development and advocacy skills.
- Maintain detailed, secure records of student assignments and services provided.
- Adapt interpretation techniques based on age and academic subject matter, from early childhood through middle school.
