Sign Language Interpreter in Cypress, TX

Step into a rewarding part-time contract opportunity supporting a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom setting. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will facilitate communication and access to instruction for a student who uses cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and who is transitioning from a residential day school program. This unique role will place you onsite each Friday, collaborating in a job share arrangement with a second facilitator who covers Monday through Thursday.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting in educational or behavioral classroom settings
- Current, valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Ability to adapt communication techniques for students with cochlear implants and ALD devices
- Comfort working both independently and collaboratively within a school environment
Position Highlights:
- Part-time, contract-based role for the 2026-2027 academic year (August 12 through May 27)
- Onsite, Fridays only, averaging 6.5 hours per day
- Responsibilities may include substituting on other days if the primary facilitator is absent
- Direct support for instructional times; no interpreting required during lunch, arrival, or dismissal
- Engage with a student who identifies as hearing but relies on sign language for understanding and expression
