Key Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working with students in a school or behavioral classroom strongly preferred
- Ability to interpret for students using hearing devices (such as Cochlear implants and ALD systems)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Current licensure or certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience adapting to various instructional and behavioral needs
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation during instructional times each Friday, averaging 6.5 hours per day
- Work closely with educators, staff, and another language facilitator (Monday–Thursday coverage) to ensure consistent support
- Adjust interpreting techniques to meet the needs of a student transitioning from a Residential Day School Program
- Foster understanding and participation in classroom activities for the student, focusing on instructional content
- Provide substitute coverage as needed if the primary language facilitator is absent
- Adhere to school policy and uphold confidential, ethical interpreting practices
