Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Houston, Texas

A rewarding opportunity is open for a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to serve as a Language Facilitator within a school environment near Houston, TX. This contract position is part-time, running from August 12, 2026, through May 27, 2027. The primary focus will be supporting a 9th-grade student in a behavioral class for instructional times on Fridays only, averaging 6.5 hours per day. You will collaborate closely with another language facilitator covering Mondays through Thursdays and may be asked to substitute if your counterpart is absent.
Key Qualifications:
- Professional proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience in educational settings, particularly at the secondary level, is highly preferred
- Understanding of working with students using Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and assistive listening devices (ALDs)
- Ability to adapt interpreting styles for students who identify as hearing but require facilitation for communication
- Current and valid interpreter licensure or certification required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with staff, students, and families
- High level of professionalism and sensitivity to behavioral and adjustment needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation for instructional periods based on the student’s individualized needs
- Foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment, adapting as necessary
- Partner with teachers and support staff to ensure clear and effective communication
- Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with school guidelines
- Be available to substitute for the other language facilitator as needed
