Make a meaningful impact by facilitating communication for a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom setting. This contract position requires expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting a student with unique communication needs at the high school level. The student utilizes Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and recently transitioned back from a Residential Day School Program. Your interpreting skills will ensure the student has access to instructional content and can fully participate in the classroom environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Understanding of classroom dynamics, preferably with high school populations
- Sensitivity to students with hearing differences and familiarity with assistive listening devices
- Ability to collaborate and work as part of a job-share arrangement (Fridays only, with flexibility to substitute as needed)
- Current certification and proof of licensure for interpreting in educational settings
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpreting services during instructional periods for one 9th-grade student
- Coordinate with another language facilitator to ensure consistency for the student
- Support the student’s participation during academic activities without interpreting during lunch, arrival, or dismissal
- Step in as a substitute for your counterpart if they are absent
- Foster an inclusive and supportive educational atmosphere
