Step into a meaningful part-time contract opportunity supporting student success as a skilled American Sign Language interpreter. Located in the vibrant Houston area, this position focuses on facilitating communication for a 9th-grade student enrolled in a behavioral classroom environment. The student uses cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and while he identifies as hearing, he requires consistent ASL interpretation during instructional times to ensure access to curriculum and classroom dialogue.
With a supportive job-share arrangement, you’ll primarily work on Fridays—on average 6.5 hours per week—with the potential to step in as a substitute for the alternate language facilitator as needed. Your expertise will help bridge communication gaps, empower individualized learning, and foster an inclusive classroom culture.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience in educational or school environments is highly valued
- Familiarity with assistive hearing devices and working with students who use cochlear implants and hearing aids
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
- Ability to support behavioral needs in a classroom setting
- Appropriate licensure/certification for sign language interpreting
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clear, accurate ASL interpretation between staff, peers, and the student during instructional hours
