Make an important impact supporting an enthusiastic first grader as a Sign Language Interpreter in a welcoming, in-person school environment near Dublin, OH. This contract role centers on providing communication access for a student with cochlear implants, utilizing a total communication approach. Help create a seamless academic experience as she participates fully in her general education classroom and receives tailored support from educational specialists in Reading and Math, as well as therapies from occupational and speech-language professionals.
Key Qualifications:
- Fluency in sign language with formal training as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience working with students in elementary settings, ideally with children using cochlear implants
- Familiarity with total communication strategies for supporting academic and language development
- Ability to collaborate with general education teachers, intervention specialists, and therapy providers
- Commitment to fostering inclusivity and academic growth
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and peer interactions in real time for the student
- Provide communication support during general education periods as well as with specialists during pull-out sessions in Math and Reading
- Adapt interpreting methods to best serve the student's individual communication needs, ensuring access and engagement
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, her classmates, and school staff
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support the student's learning goals and social participation
