Sign Language Interpreter

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Sign Language Interpreter to support a first-grade student in an inclusive school setting. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact by ensuring the student has full access to classroom instruction and school activities.
Position Overview
The Sign Language Interpreter will provide communication support for a first-grade student with cochlear implants who benefits from a total communication approach for academics and learning. The student participates in the general education classroom for most of the school day and receives additional individualized instruction and related services.
Responsibilities
- Provide sign language interpreting services throughout the school day in accordance with the student's communication needs
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, classmates, and school staff
- Support the student's access to classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities
- Collaborate with the educational team, including teachers, intervention specialists, and related service providers
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreting standards
- Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Student & Program Information
- Student is enrolled in 1st grade
- Student has cochlear implants and benefits from a total communication approach
- Student attends school in person
- Student participates in the general education classroom for the majority of the school day
- Receives pull-out instruction for Math and Reading from an Intervention Specialist
- Also receives services from an Occupational Therapist (OT) and Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
Qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting
- Appropriate state licensure, certification, or credentials required for educational interpreters
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
