Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Grayslake, Illinois
Sign Language Interpreters are needed to support students in educational settings, providing essential access to classroom content and communication. This opportunity offers two contract positions, both beginning as soon as possible and extending through May 2027. Professionals will work directly with students and staff, facilitating an inclusive learning environment using American Sign Language (ASL). Position one is based at a center in Vernon Hills, running from 9am to 3pm on weekdays. The second position is at a high school in Grayslake with a weekday morning schedule from 8am to 12pm.
Ideal candidates should bring strong interpreting skills, flexibility, and a passion for student success. You'll become a valuable communication bridge, helping students thrive academically and socially.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid understanding of educational interpreting
- Hold an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with ISBE Approval, or EIPA score between 3.0-3.4 with interim ISBE Approval
- Alternatively, BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC credentials will be considered if paired with ISBE Approval
- Previous experience in K-12 educational environments strongly preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school environment
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and assemblies for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Support communication between students, teachers, and peers using ASL and/or other appropriate modalities
- Assist in preparing materials and adapt resources for student accessibility as needed
- Collaborate with educational staff to foster a supportive and engaging learning atmosphere
- Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality at all times
