Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Hagerstown, Maryland
Step into a rewarding, school-based role supporting a high school student as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming 26/27 academic year. This onsite position offers the opportunity to collaborate with educators and help shape an inclusive environment for student success. The position is full-time, with a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, providing a stable workweek of 37.5 hours.
Desired Qualifications:
- Current Educator certification
- Minimum EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) written test score of 75%
- Either a 4.0 or above on the EIPA performance test, or an active NIC (National Interpreter Certification) from RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
- Experience supporting students in a high school setting is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to fostering accessible learning
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and parents
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver clear, accurate sign language interpretation for a male high school student during classroom instruction and school activities
- Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers to ensure complete participation
- Adapt interpreting strategies to meet the educational and developmental needs of the student
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with ethical standards
- Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and contribute to student progress monitoring
