Step into a vital role supporting a 9th-grade student’s educational journey by utilizing your expertise in American Sign Language within a dynamic learning environment. This part-time contract opportunity is perfect for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter passionate about making a meaningful impact in schools. You’ll collaborate closely with another Language Facilitator, ensuring consistent language access every Friday—and stepping in as a substitute if needed.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and experienced in educational interpreting
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (state or nationally recognized)
- Prior work in school settings, especially with students with cochlear implants, hearing aids, or ALD devices
- Comfortable supporting students in behavioral classrooms
- Strong skills in facilitating communication between students, educators, and peers
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Adaptable and responsive to student needs in a changing educational environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation for a student during instructional periods (not required during lunch, arrival, or dismissal)
- Collaborate with another language facilitator to ensure seamless student support throughout the week
- Adjust interpreting strategies as needed, considering recent transitions from residential programs
- Promote positive social, academic, and classroom participation for students with hearing challenges
- Maintain thorough records and communicate effectively with staff and supervisors
