Key Qualifications:
- Valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter with the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing (KCDHH)
- Demonstrated experience in educational or school settings, particularly with elementary-aged children
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to tailor interpretation to a young, new ASL learner
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families
- Cultural competence and sensitivity in working with diverse student populations
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for a 4th-grade student during classroom activities, instruction, and school-related events
- Adjust interpreting strategies to support a beginner-level ASL user, ensuring robust language access and comprehension
- Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and school personnel
- Collaborate with the educational team to monitor and adapt support as the student’s language skills develop
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards in line with school policies and ethical guidelines
This role offers a regular Monday through Friday schedule, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., giving you both a fulfilling assignment and predictable hours.
