Exciting opportunity for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 4th-grade student who is beginning their ASL journey. This full-time, contract position is available immediately and will continue through late May 2027, with the potential to extend into the Extended School Year (ESY). You’ll work closely on a school schedule, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., providing essential language access and educational support.
Qualifications:
- Licensed by the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
- EIPA score of 4.0 or higher.
- Experience in educational settings or working with children.
- Ability to foster an encouraging, inclusive, and patient learning environment.
- Proficient communication skills and adaptability in tailoring interpreting to the needs of new ASL learners.
- Commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa for a 4th-grade student across classroom activities, assignments, and school interactions.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and special education team members to ensure student participation and integration.
- Provide feedback to support the student’s ASL learning and comfort in school.
- Utilize various visual and instructional resources to facilitate clear communication.
- Navigate diverse learning contexts and contribute to IEP or planning meetings as needed.
