Sign Language Interpreter in Naperville, IL
A rewarding contract opportunity awaits for a skilled professional to support students as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Sign Language Interpreter. This onsite position offers the chance to make a meaningful difference while providing communication access within educational settings. The assignment spans the full academic year, from August 3, 2026, to May 27, 2027, with a full-time commitment of 37.5 hours per week. The caseload will be determined as school assignments are finalized.
Key Qualifications:
- Expertise in interpreting for Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals in school environments
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting best practices
- Hold current ISBE Approval or an active IDHHC credential (PEL not required)
- Proven experience supporting classroom instruction, student engagement, and inclusion
- Collaborative attitude for working alongside educators, service providers, and families
Core Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication for students by interpreting classroom lessons, activities, and conversations
- Partner with teachers and staff to ensure access and full participation for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Adjust interpretations for individual student needs based on grade level, language skills, and subject matter
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards within all interactions
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and contribute to the student support team
