Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Waukegan, Illinois
A rewarding contract opportunity awaits skilled Sign Language Interpreters ready to make a meaningful difference in educational settings near Waukegan, IL. This position offers both full-time and part-time schedules for the 2026-2027 academic year, serving students at the high school level.
Full-time interpreters will split their schedule between two sites, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm, supporting K-12th grade students. Those seeking part-time hours will work at Grayslake North High School, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 12:00pm, focusing on grades 9-12. The caseload involves working with a total of 12 high school students, typically interpreting for one student per class.
Qualifications:
- EIPA score of 3.5+ with ISBE Approval, or EIPA 3.0-3.4 with ISBE Interim Approval accepted
- BEI or NIC credentials also considered with ISBE Approval
- Previous experience in educational or school settings preferred
- Comfortable working onsite in dynamic classroom environments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality sign language interpretation for students, ensuring clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and classmates
- Collaborate with educators to support student learning and access to curriculum
- Adapt to varying classroom subjects and settings
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in all interactions
This position begins with institute/training days on August 10th, 2026, and runs through May 20th, 2027. Your expertise will make a lasting impact by supporting student access and inclusion in a supportive, collaborative community.
