Make a meaningful impact in the educational journey of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students by utilizing your sign language interpreting expertise in a supportive school environment near Waukegan, IL. We are seeking dedicated professionals for contract opportunities, supporting students in either high school (grades 9-12) or elementary/middle school (grades K-8) settings during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum EIPA score of 3.5 (required; please provide verification)
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language and experience facilitating communication in educational settings
  • Prior experience working with school-aged students, preferably in special education environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, school activities, and educator/student interactions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Adapt interpreting strategies to meet varying class sizes (1-3 students per high school class; 1-5 students per K-8 class)
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards in all interactions
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to support IEP goals
  • Participate in institute/training days onsite at your assigned school

Available Positions:

  • High school (9th-12th): 35 hours/week, Monday–Thursday, 8:00 am–3:30 pm, August 10, 2026 – May 20, 2027
  • Elementary/middle school (K-8): 35 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:15 am–3:45 pm, August 17, 2026 – May 28, 2027
  • Onsite only — remote work is not available for these roles
