Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Waukegan, Illinois
Embark on a meaningful contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter, making a direct impact in the educational journeys of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. We are seeking skilled interpreters dedicated to fostering inclusive learning environments across multiple grade levels for the 2026-2027 school year. Positions are available for both high school (9th-12th grade) and elementary/middle school (K-8th grade) settings.
Open Roles & Assignments:
- High School (Grades 9-12): 2 positions at a local high school, August 10, 2026, to May 20, 2027, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–3:30 pm, supporting a caseload of 12 students (1-3 per class).
- Elementary/Middle School (K-8): 1 position at a local center, August 17, 2026, to May 28, 2027, Monday–Friday, 8:15 am–3:45 pm, with a larger caseload of 30 students (1-5 per class).
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter with an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (screenshot of confirmed score required)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings strongly preferred
- Comfortable working onsite with students in a school environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to specify grade-level preference (K-8 or 9-12) for interview
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and clear interpretation for assigned students in classrooms and school activities
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other interpreters to support student participation
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Adapt interpreting style to individual student needs and age groups
