Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Palatine, Illinois
Two contract opportunities are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters looking to make a meaningful impact in educational settings near Palatine, IL. Both positions offer long-term assignments supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing, working closely with educators and staff to create fully accessible learning environments.
Position 1:
Located at an educational center in Vernon Hills, this full-time opportunity runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, starting immediately and continuing through May 28, 2027.
Position 2: Serve at a high school in Grayslake, working Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, beginning as soon as possible through May 20, 2027.
Key Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in school or educational settings is highly desired.
- Certification requirements (one of the following):
- EIPA score 3.5+ with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Approval.
- EIPA score 3.0-3.4 with ISBE Interim Approval.
- BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC credentials with ISBE Approval.
- Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and a commitment to effective communication.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families.
- Flexibility to adapt interpreting methods to varying student needs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students, staff, and classroom events.
- Facilitate communication between students and teachers, peers, and other staff members.
- Maintain professional ethics, ensure confidentiality, and adhere to school guidelines.
- Support student participation in academic and extracurricular activities.
- Monitor and report on student progress as required.
