Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Pittsfield, MA

This onsite assignment, conveniently located near Pittsfield, MA, begins June 1st and is part of an Extended School Year (ESY) program. You will collaborate closely with a virtual Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to ensure clear, meaningful communication for a single student, age 3, supporting their language development and engagement throughout the summer.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with previous experience in educational settings
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or proof of meeting local interpreting standards
- Prior work supporting early childhood students, especially in one-on-one settings, preferred
- Ability to work onsite throughout the assignment and partner effectively with remote specialists
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for inclusive education
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time ASL interpretation for classroom activities, instruction, and social interactions
- Facilitate communication between the student, staff, and any participating family members
- Adapt signing methods to meet the developmental needs of a 3-year-old learner
- Collaborate with the virtual DHH teacher to implement educational objectives and strategies
- Monitor and report on student progress and engagement during the ESY program
