Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Williamstown, MA
Step into an impactful role supporting a young learner as an American Sign Language professional onsite this summer. Collaborate closely with a virtual Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to provide exceptional support to one preschool student, age 3, during the Extended School Year (ESY) program.
Ideal candidates are experienced in both sign language interpretation and instructional support for early learners. Your skills will help foster inclusivity, communication, and growth for a bright student eager to thrive.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with strong receptive and expressive skills
- Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter and/or Teacher in an educational or early childhood environment
- Familiarity collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, ideally including remote DHH professionals
- Ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of a young child
- Commitment to onsite, in-person assignments throughout the contract period
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom communication, instructions, and activities for one 3-year-old student
- Partner with a virtual DHH teacher to implement individualized learning strategies
- Facilitate student participation during the ESY program, ensuring equal access to curriculum and activities
- Support the development of language, social, and interpersonal skills in a nurturing setting
- Maintain clear documentation and ongoing communication with the educational team
