What you'll bring:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting techniques
- Relevant certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (RID, EIPA, or state equivalent preferred)
- Experience interpreting in K-12 school settings
- Patience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to student success
- Flexibility to adapt to different age groups and educational needs
- Team spirit and a collaborative approach with educators and staff
Key responsibilities:
- Provide accurate interpretation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in classroom and school activities
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Support student participation in lessons, assemblies, and extracurricular events
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards as outlined by professional interpreting guidelines
- Work closely with teachers and special education staff to support student learning
- Adapt interpreting style as needed for high school or elementary educational content
Details of each position:
- High School Interpreter: 35 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:45 PM
- Elementary Interpreter: 30 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–2:30 PM (Oroville location, transitioning to Roseville in the upcoming school year)
