Bring your expertise as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support a high school student in a part-time contract opportunity. This role is ideal for professionals seeking a focused, meaningful impact within a supportive school environment while maintaining scheduling flexibility.
In this position, you’ll collaborate as a Language Facilitator to assist a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom. The student has unique communication needs, using Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device. Your interpreting skills will be crucial during instructional times—enabling access to the curriculum and fostering an inclusive atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation for instructional periods each Friday (approx. 6.5 hours per week)
- Foster effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers
- Support the student’s educational and social development during class time
- Substitute as needed if the other Facilitator is absent (Monday-Thursday coverage)
- Work collaboratively with educators and staff to ensure a supportive learning environment
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language with experience in school settings
- Credentialed Sign Language Interpreter certification/licensure (proof required)
- Familiarity with assistive listening devices and accommodations for hearing-impaired students
- Experience working with students with behavioral or special needs is preferred
- Ability to adapt communication strategies to individual student requirements
