Step into a rewarding part-time contract position supporting a 9th grade student as a Sign Language Interpreter in a behavioral classroom setting. This role is centered on facilitating clarity and inclusivity in instructional environments, collaborating closely with educators and staff to enhance the student’s learning experience. The student uses cochlear implants, hearing aids, and classroom assistive listening devices, and identifies as hearing though communicates primarily with ASL due to unintelligible speech.
Key Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
- Understanding of supporting students with cochlear implants, hearing aids, or assistive listening devices
- Patience, adaptability, and strong communication skills
- Current licensure or relevant certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Collaborative spirit to coordinate with a fellow language facilitator
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL for a 9th grade student during instructional time (not including lunch or class transitions)
- Support the student’s integration and participation within a behavioral classroom environment
- Partner with classroom teachers and the student’s support team to tailor communication strategies
- Substitute for another facilitator as needed during their absence (primarily working Fridays)
- Maintain confidentiality and advocate for the student’s communication needs
