Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Sugar Land, Texas
Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to support a high school student’s educational journey. This part-time contract opportunity focuses on serving as a Language Facilitator for a 9th-grade student in a behavioral class, providing interpretation services during instructional times only. You will play a key role in ensuring meaningful access to classroom content for a student utilizing cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an assistive listening device. The student identifies as hearing but requires ASL interpretation due to unintelligible speech. This is a job-share position, collaborating with another facilitator who works Monday through Thursday; your role covers Fridays and substitutes as needed.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Skilled in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation within K-12 settings
- Prior experience with students who use cochlear implants, hearing aids, or ALD devices preferred
- Ability to support students in behavioral special education environments
- Valid and current licensure or certification as required for educational interpreters
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Flexibility to provide substitute coverage if the other language facilitator is absent
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver ASL interpretation for all instructional activities (excluding lunch, arrival, and dismissal)
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment for a high school student adjusting after returning from a residential program
- Collaborate with educational staff and the other language facilitator to ensure student continuity and support
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and accurate records as needed
Role Details:
- Contract position from August 12, 2026, to May 27, 2027
- Fridays only, averaging 6.5 hours per day
- Must be available to substitute as necessary
