Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and formal training as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Previous experience interpreting in a school setting, preferably at the high school level
- Familiarity with educational terminology and learning environments
- Ability to support diverse learners, demonstrating understanding and patience
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Relevant certification and clearances required according to state and local regulations
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school events for high school students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborate with educators, counselors, and classroom staff to facilitate access to the full learning experience
- Adapt interpreting techniques to individual student needs and classroom activities
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting in an educational setting
- Provide feedback to the educational team about communication strategies and student progress
- Participate in school meetings, professional development, and trainings as appropriate
