As a Sign Language Interpreter, you’ll play a key role in fostering inclusivity for students with hearing impairments, collaborating with educators, and promoting an accessible learning environment within multiple schools.
What You’ll Bring:
- Valid CDE Authorization for educational sign language interpreters (required)
- EIPA score of 3.5 or above (required)
- Experience supporting students in both special education and general education (mild to severe needs)
- Strong interpretation and transliteration skills in American Sign Language
- Ability to work in an itinerant role, traveling between school sites as needed
- Professionalism and adaptability within diverse teams and settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) for students, staff, and families across different classrooms and school activities
- Provide effective communication support in both special education (SPED) and general education environments
- Adapt to the varying communication needs of students with a range of abilities
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines for educational interpreters
- Build rapport with students, teachers, and related service staff
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and collaborate in developing student plans as appropriate
