Sign Language Interpreter in Aurora, IL

This contract position will allow you to flex your interpreting skills across five different schools, with a full-time need specifically at an elementary building. As a valued member of the team, you may occasionally be called upon to support other schools in the district when absences arise, ensuring continuity of access and support for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong grasp of interpreting principles
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
- Ability to adapt communication styles to various age groups, from elementary to older students
- Eagerness to collaborate with teachers, staff, and fellow interpreters
- Certified or licensed to interpret in educational environments (compliant with state standards)
- Flexible in working at different locations as needed
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpreting between spoken English and sign language in classroom and school activities
- Facilitate communication for students, teachers, and staff across multiple school environments
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards at all times
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere
- Step in to support additional schools within the district as needed
