Key Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate SLI endorsement
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid understanding of Deaf culture
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting is highly valued
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff
- Commitment to maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, 1-on-1 sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction and school activities
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to adapt communication methods and assist with instructional delivery
- Foster an inclusive and accessible environment, advocating for each student’s needs
- Accurately interpret spoken English to ASL (and vice versa) to support academic and social engagement
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and ongoing training as requested
