Sign Language Interpreter in Waukegan, IL
Make an impact supporting high school students by providing sign language interpretation in an engaging and inclusive educational environment. This contract position offers a set part-time schedule where you will work alongside specialized educators and dedicated staff members. Qualifications and Requirements:
- Valid EIPA score of 3.5+ (or 3.0-3.4 with interim ISBE approval), or BEI/NIC credentials with ISBE approval
- Demonstrated experience in educational settings as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Ability to interpret fluently between ASL and spoken English
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
- Comfortable and professional working onsite with high school-aged students
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students in classroom settings and during school activities
- Support individual students (interpreting for one student per class); manage a caseload of up to 12 students across the high school level
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to promote student understanding and engagement
- Participate in training and school events as scheduled, including Institute/Training days
This part-time opportunity is scheduled for weekday mornings, Monday through Thursday, from 8:00am to 12:00pm, with a 20-hour per week commitment. The assignment runs from August 10, 2026, through May 20, 2027, coinciding with the academic school year.
