Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required
- Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational environments
- Proficiency in American Sign Language with up-to-date knowledge of educational interpreting practices
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster trust and collaboration with students and staff
Responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time sign language interpretation for a single student in school environments, ensuring full access to classroom instruction and activities
- Collaborate closely with educators, support staff, and families to meet the individual communication needs of the assigned student
- Adapt interpreting style to various educational situations, from lectures to group work and extracurricular activities
- Facilitate understanding, participation, and inclusion for your student in both academic and social settings
- Contribute to IEP meetings and progress updates as needed
