Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and able to interpret with accuracy and cultural sensitivity
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably at the middle school level
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and best practices for supporting language access
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and other professionals
- Strong communication skills and adaptability in fast-paced classroom settings
- Relevant certification or licensure, if required by state or local guidelines
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate ASL interpretation for students during lessons, group activities, and school events
- Ensure equal access to instruction and participation for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Prepare for upcoming lessons and assignments to facilitate effective communication
- Support classroom management and engagement by working alongside educational staff
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for interpreters
- Assist with IEP meetings or parent-teacher conferences as needed
