Step into a dynamic educational environment supporting D/deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students at the elementary level. This contract role offers the opportunity to facilitate vital communication and help shape an inclusive atmosphere for students needing American Sign Language (ASL) support. Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and the greater school community, serving as a bridge and advocate for students’ access to education from September through late June.

You will interpret sign to voice and voice to sign in a variety of classroom and school settings, ensuring compliance with IDEA, ADA, and other relevant regulations. As you support D/HH students, you may also participate in instructional activities under the direction of teaching staff, helping to foster a more engaging learning experience.

Key Qualifications:

  • Completion of an Interpreter Training Program (must be verifiable)
  • RID certification and/or EIPA score of 4.0 or higher (required by Washington State law as of 2023)
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to reliably commute
  • Prior school-based interpreting experience is highly desired

Role Responsibilities:

  • Interpret in classrooms and common areas to facilitate clear communication for D/HH students
  • Adapt communication style as needed to support student learning and response
  • Work with teachers to deliver curriculum content in a manner accessible to all learners
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards at all times
