Specialized sign language interpreter roles are available for the upcoming academic year, working directly with students in vibrant educational environments near Waukegan, IL. These contract positions are ideal for professionals passionate about supporting communication access for students in either high school or K-8th grade settings.
Available Positions:
- High School (Grades 9-12): Two openings, 35 hours per week, August 10th, 2026 to May 20th, 2027, Monday through Friday, 8:00am–3:30pm. Caseload includes 12 high school students, interpreting for 1–3 students per class.
- Elementary–Middle School (K–8): One opening, 35 hours per week, August 17th, 2026 to May 28th, 2027, Monday through Friday, 8:15am–3:45pm. Caseload involves 30 students across elementary and middle school, interpreting for 1–5 students per class.
Qualifications:
- Valid and current Sign Language Interpreter credentials.
- EIPA Score of 3.5 or greater is required (please submit proof).
- Experience working in an educational setting preferred.
- Ability to provide clear, accurate interpretation between students and staff in a classroom.
- Strong teamwork approach and exceptional communication skills.
- Comfort working onsite full-time within assigned school locations.
- Candidates should indicate clearly whether they wish to interview for the K–8th grade or 9th–12th grade role.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver in-classroom interpreting services between students and school staff to facilitate learning.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and school teams to support IEP goals.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards.
- Engage with students throughout the instructional day, adapting to varied class schedules and group sizes.
